SWAN LAKE - Prologue Cover by Domnics SWAN LAKE - Prologue Cover by Domnics
Here's a second shot at this comic thing.

Only a cover for now but I hope to get drawing the pages soon. The script has been coming along but now the ideas just aren't coming to me as fast as I want them to. It'll get there though.

This time around, we'll get to see an older (12 yrs) Odette and what her life as a humble middle-class girl was like before she came to be living with Rothbart at the lake.
Some stuff I had in mind for the story might not be as faithful to the original story which worries me... I'm really torn between doing something less conventional that would be interesting to me to write but then... the simpleness and straightforwardness of the story is also something I really like and to keep it like that would be nice too. I think in the end, I'll just go with the former though. :/
Gotta take risks, right?

--

The idea for this cover actually came to me one night while I was trying to get to sleep. I do this thing where I leave it up to chance to see if the idea is good or not... I go to bed and if I remember the idea the next day, it's probably a good idea. :XD:
The idea or inspiration for this was actually the 'Creation of David' by Michelangelo. www.google.ca/search?q=birth+o…
I wanted it to be a simple looking piece while being a bit sinister at the same time. Originally, the 'evil wave' that's forming Rothbart was going to be a lot more gruesome with some demented birds or something... but it was too complicated to draw. :'D
Not at an artist level where I can draw an evil wave of demon birds yet. ; u ;

Oh, that looks awesome :wow: Can't believe I didn't see it before :blush: Another long overdue catch-up :P
You should indeed trust your instincts and take the story wherever you need to, unless Odette is suddenly abducted by aliens or something :XD: which is an example my screenwritting teacher loved to use :P It's been told the conventional way so many times. Make this one your own.

Thanks very much! That's alright haha
This one's pretty recent.

Has it really though? D:
Aside form the ballet, I just figured that it would be right to tell it faithfully since it's had so little adaptations.

I'll probably just end up going a different way though. That's more fun. x)

Yeah, well... I didn't mean to sound like it's been told and retold countless times. I mean, even the ballet itself has been staged and reinterpreted differently in over a century since its creation. Probably there's not a million versions in other mediums. But there's at least 3 animated movies, including the Barbie one :P I was just saying that all those already went through the basics, more or less, so if you have your own vision and your own elements to bring to the table you shouldn't hesitate :)

When I look at Rothbart's form and blank face it reminds me of Howl in a more sinister light. Even without the demonic birds you still capture the creepiness and evil of Rothbart.

On another note, you've killed me once again. Worship

I actually had that in mind for this!!! That image of the huge bird body and all the feathers everywhere with only Howl's face sticking out has always stuck with me so I wanted to put a bit of that in here. :)

Thank you so much ; u ; You already know I love getting such nice messages from you :'D
/not worthy. :XD:

Rothbart looks like Zant from The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess.

I love the story, I remember reading A Trina Schart illustrated book of it. And it captured my heart :)

Maybe I can give you a idea for characterizing Odile? If she appears in the comic.

"Embodying bother parts of her parents, she is however a much more excellent shape-shifter, not having the deteriorating effect her father has and her mothers own sarcastic humor and deadpan snark, but she also possesses her mothers unglamored beauty. Which reveals Odile as a golden haired near double of Odette. Which implies her mother is one too. However, despite the fact she wants to follow in her fathers footsteps, she doesn't enjoy the idea of forcing people into other forms, while she is a tad selfish and can be malicious. it doesn't sit well with her to permanently condemn a person to be FOREVER a animal. However, her deep attraction to the Prince, and her fervent wish to be a REAL princess clouds her mind. So, she assists her father by using her looks to fool the Prince. Along with a few spells so the prince wouldn't notice."

Or just ignore me, I do get carried away. ^^;
